my weekend. cold, freezing, but amazing!
so its been a weekend since i got back to toronto after my break, things are back to normal, im going about my regular routine, and i have a feel for what my semester (last semester) will for the most part look like.
as part of our usual schedule, sam came down to toronto this weekend. the morning he came up, i woke up and found that the incredible weather (sans snow) we had been having here in the city, took a turn for the typical canadian winter... much to my dismay... oh well. i didn't care too much because sam was coming. we hadn't seen each other in about 3 weeks (its a longgg time for us!) so i didn't pay too much attention to the snow and cold. we decided to hit up our fav coffee show in kensington, pamenar, for some hot beverages :) oh and beforehand we picked up some gluten free cookies at hibiscus! we chilled for a while, and headed over to campus because i had been scheduled to work at the theatre that night, and sam decided to come watch the show (u of t battle of the bands). twas not a bad shift, actually it was pretty fun, we got to catch up with our buddies and listen to some decent and a few awesome bands!
saturday we got to get back into our studying routine @ pamenar, and we decided to go out to arepa cafe for dinner, before heading over to the horseshoe tavern too see dwayne gretzky play, a coverband comprised of a few members of different bands, one of whom is our friend robin.
the dinner was amazing. this was not our frist time hitting up this Venezuelan cafe, and its most definitely not the last. basically their focus are arepas, grilled corn buns with an assortment of different fillings to choose from. my personal fav is the codfish arepa, so i decided to go with it. sam went for a steak, bean, plantain, cheese filled arepa, and my brother michal went for a steak arepa (but i cannot remember what other fillings he got). we also ordered yuca with a guacamole sauce, anddd for dessert we had coconut flan. so good, not too sweet, and the caramel was slightly bitter, which is exactly how i like it!
after we were nice and full, it was time for drinks and the show. we met up with a few friends at the horseshoe tavern a bit before the show in order to make sure get got tickets, and to have a few drinks. i did not expect soo many people to be there. the venue is by no means large, and they managed to fit a significant number of people in. not surprised at the turnout though. the band was amazing! so much energy, great cover songs, and they were a lot of fun to watch. we all had a great time, and it was my brothers first show downtown, and he loved it.
sunday was pretty low key. the usual studying. sam had band practice. we had sausages, roasted cauliflower, mushroom, and roasted potatoes for dinner. and we did manage to find a website that streamed the golden globes live.
twas a wonderful weekend. quality time spent with my boyfriend, but also my brother and friends.
ps. i forgot to mention that both saturday and sunday were FREEZING, especially saturday. and for a lil while i was a grumpy krush. but with great food and friends i got over it. haha. poor sam and michal who had to see the grump.
